The history of Shore Acres began in the early 1900's as a private estate owned by shipbuilder Louis J. Simpson. He immersed his beautiful property with trees and flowering plants from all over the world in developing a masterpiece; however, hard times hit, and the property eventually was purchased by the State of Oregon in 1942. Thence, becoming Shore Acres State Park.
