Visiting the beautiful Southern Oregon Coast offers more than just eye candy, it is also home to one of the most extraordinary movie theaters from days past in existence today. The Egyptian Theatre, part of the National Register of Historic Places since 2010, is one of two historical Egyptian Revival style theatres along the West Coast. The Egyptian Theatre in Coos Bay; however, is the only one of its kind that is currently open to tours and shows. The beauty and splendour are mostly unchanged from its original architectural erection in 1925.
An Egyptian Theatre is a theatre based on the designs of Ancient Egypt yielding glamourous showcases of Egyptian art, hieroglyphics, and carved statues. It creates an ambience of grandeur upon entrance and takes you back in time when a night on the town for movie premiers was a memorable experience. The Egyptian Theatre in Coos Bay does just that, and also offers the magnificent Wurlitzer Hope-Jones Unit Orchestra organ that sits proudly on display at the entrance of the auditorium.
The Egyptian Theatre is a definite "to-do." item on your list of attractions in the Coos Bay area, and if you are visiting during the month of April 2016, here are the scheduled events:
- April 1st & 2nd - Ferris Bueller's Day Off

- April 15th & 16th - Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs
